History of belmopan
As the Capital of Belize, Belmopan is located at the heart of the Country. The City was formed after the devastation of Hurricane Hattie that destroyed Belize City in 1961, it was decided then, that a new capital city away from the dangers of Mother Nature was necessary. The Belmopan City Council was incorporated as a municipality in 2000.

Its urban morphology is of irregular distribution, with an environment surrounded by nature, plants, trees... And with a fairly green landscape with single-family low-rise houses and apparently without buildings.

Belmopan segregation is quite peaceful as there is no transparency in their policy.

Belmopan is one city that lacks of urbanization, it has its unique things, its traditional food, its small local businesses and there is no or almost no franchise or big business there.

The pattern is orthogonal, since the houses are by blocks and following a pattern in their distribution
Economic functions
Traditionally, and until a few decades ago, three basic production and manufacturing sectors were distinguished: primary, secondary and tertiary sectors. The most basic economic sector is the primary sector, which brings together all activities aimed at extracting or harvesting products from the land. It is followed by the secondary sector, in charge of the processing of raw materials, industrial manufacturing and all activities related to manufacturing. Finally, the tertiary sector is the one that offers services of all kinds to the population in general.
Internal transportation
Belize is a country that has transportation and since Belmopan is in Belize, it has public bus transportation, there is a small public bus, not like the modern and big ones usually seen in big cities. Most people go by car, by taxi or on foot, since it is a small city. Belmopan has an airport as public transport, but it is not a local transport.
Housing type
Belmopan has single-family homes all around the city, there are the same few places that are a little bit taller than the rest but most of them are short and small.

They are houses on the outskirts of the city and separated from each other that are called on the periphery.
Surrounding areas
Belmopan has some cities near by, like:Valley of Peace, BelizeSan Ignacio, BelizeBenque Viejo del Carmen, BelizeDangriga, BelizeBelize City, BelizeOrange Walk, BelizeSan Pedro, BelizeCorozal, Belize(all of them in the same country) That surround the city because it is almost a the center.
Business centre
In Belmopan there are not many business centers, only a few like Yellow.place, we mentioned that it is a small city
Smart city
It does not reach a smart city, but it does adapt to social networks, such as its own consulate website, which brings information such as the number of inhabitants or the weather, but regarding technologies and professionals, they do not reach that.
Waste management
To promote the prevention of plastics, the Project signed Memorandums of Understanding with the Municipality of Belmopan and the Solid Waste Management Authority, in order to promote actions that lead to the reduction of plastic waste and move towards a circular economy.
Through these agreements, a pilot will be implemented aimed at strengthening the capacities of awareness, waste classification from the source, collection and recycling, among others.So people in Belmopan want to recycle more plastic with this project for a better management of solid waste.
Security
In general, Belize is not the safest destination for tourists visiting Central America, as there is a lot of petty/violent crime and theft.
